Therapeutic Approach

I offer a compassionate, mindful, and collaborative approach to psychotherapy with individuals and couples.  I will meet you where you are and will listen thoughtfully to what you bring to our work together.  My style is warm and interactive, moving frequently between reflection, active clarification, and guidance to support you in understanding and navigating current challenges.

My clinical experience includes in-depth training in psychoanalytic, object relations, attachment-based, somatic, and experiential approaches to therapy.  I consider the relationship between therapist and client to be essential to the process of therapy, where it serves as a source of understanding, learning, and, ultimately change.  I also believe that certain aspects of our experience exist out of conscious awareness, yet impact our day-to-day experience in meaningful ways.  As a result, I believe therapy is about helping each individual or couple to become aware of the underlying sources of the difficulties they face in ways that allow them to achieve meaningful and lasting change.  To facilitate this process, I strive to create a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where you feel safe to express and explore your feelings and experiences, encouraged to grow, and where all parts of you are welcome.  This includes understanding the difficulties you face and how you have learned to adapt, as well as recognizing and appreciating the strengths you bring to your life, relationships, and our work together.
